Exploring the South Island: Our Adventure to the Yea the girls 25 Show in November

November was a month filled with excitement as we embarked on a memorable trip to the South Island of New Zealand. Our destination? The much-anticipated Yea the Girls 25 show. This journey took us from North Canterbury all the way down to Gore, Queenstown, and Wanaka, culminating in a camping experience at the show itself. Join us as we recount our adventure through stunning landscapes, vibrant towns, and the thrill of the event.

Setting Off from North Canterbury

Our adventure began in North Canterbury, where the rolling hills and lush landscapes set the tone for our trip. The excitement was palpable as we loaded up our vehicle with camping gear, snacks, and a playlist of our favorite tunes. The drive through the countryside was breathtaking, revealing the majestic Southern Alps in the distance.

As we journeyed south, we couldn’t resist stopping at various lookout points to admire the beauty of the region. Each stop offered a fresh perspective, showcasing sprawling vineyards, vibrant fields, and serene rivers. One of our favorite stops was at a vineyard in Waipara, where we sampled local wines and enjoyed a scenic picnic overlooking the grapevines.

Discovering Gore

Our first major stop was Gore, a charming town known for its rich history and engaging community. We took time to explore the local shops and cafes, indulging in delicious treats and chatting with friendly locals. The highlight of our visit was the Gore Historical Museum, which displayed fascinating artifacts and provided insights into the town's connection to the arts. Did you know that Gore is also known as the "Liberal Capital of New Zealand"? It truly lives up to that title with its vibrant arts scene.

After a day of exploration, we set up camp at a nearby campsite. The stars twinkled above as we gathered around a campfire, sharing stories and laughter. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day filled with travel.

The Journey to Queenstown

The next leg of our journey took us to Queenstown, a destination famous for its adventure sports and stunning scenery. The drive was filled with winding roads and breathtaking views of Lake Wakatipu. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the vibrant atmosphere of the town, bustling with tourists and locals alike.

In Queenstown, we immersed ourselves in various activities. We experienced the thrill of a jet boat ride, which raced across the water at speeds of up to 85 km/h, leaving a spray of water in its wake. We also enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the lakefront, where we relaxed and enjoyed the view. The highlight was undoubtedly the Skyline Gondola ride, where we soared up to 790 meters above sea level and were rewarded with panoramic views of the Southern Alps and the Remarkables mountain range.

Exploring Wanaka

After Queenstown, we headed to Wanaka, a picturesque town known for its stunning lake and outdoor activities. The drive was scenic, transitioning from rugged mountains to lush greenery. Wanaka offered a more laid-back vibe compared to Queenstown, making it the perfect spot to relax and recharge.

We spent our days hiking in the nearby mountains, with one memorable hike being the trail to Roys Peak. This challenging trek rewards hikers with breathtaking views from the summit, showcasing the vibrant blue of Lake Wanaka below. The iconic lone tree in the lake was a must-see and provided an ideal backdrop for countless photos. The sunsets here were nothing short of magical, painting the sky with brilliant hues of orange and pink.

Camping at the Yea the Girls 25 Show
